Dominica smartphone App launched

Dominicas first Dedicated Tourism Smartphone App Launched

Roseau, Dominica: A local web development company today (15th May, 2012) launched the first ever mobile app dedicated to Dominicas tourism product.The Destination Dominica app is a smartphone application that showcases Dominica.

Drawing upon the comprehensive database that powers the popular Visit-Dominica.com website, the app allows users to quickly find what they what to do in Dominica.

CEO of Delphis Ltd, Steve McCabe, said The app is targeted at visitors currently on island or people knowing theyre coming to Dominica. As such, the aim is on letting people quickly and easily find what they want in Dominica, be it a place to eat or stay, or something to do. Theres a real focus on ease of use, and of letting people discover whats around them. For example we make extensive use of Google Maps to show users where attractions and local businesses are located.The app is initially available on the Android platform, with a iPhone version coming soon. Blackberry users can use the mobile website version of the app.

3 charged

Police report that three men have been charged with the robbery and rape of a US citizen in the Calibishe area at the end of April. They also reported that three men have also been charged with a rape and robbery incident at Batibou beach in February. Police were reporting on crime statistics, noting a reduction in crimes of murder lately.

Maynard passes

Dominica's ambassador to the OECS, Charles Maynard, passed away this morning. He was aged 78. PM Skerrit said the country has lost a great patriot and nationalist.

Bus drivers in south protest

Bus drivers from Soufriere and Scott's Head staged a protest this morning about the state of the road from the villages to Roseau. They parked-up and refused to take passengers to Roseau until asssurances were given that Government would fix the road. Many school children were affected and unable to get to school.

New management for Carnival

The Carnival Development Committee is closing down, and a new management team being put together. The new body will be more streamlined and be similar to the body that organises the Creole Music Festival.
