PM Skerrit has urged people and communities to begin preparations well ahead of the 2012 Hurricane Season. The season begins June 1st.

Money for rebuilding

Dominica has received a loan of US$4.1 million and a grant for US$37,000 from the Caribbean Development Bank for reconstruction and slope stabilisation. The loan/grant agreement was signed today. The proposed works are mainly in the Roseau & Roseau Valley.

Help for Tropical Storm Ophelia victims

Government are providing financial assistance to people who suffered losses after the passing of Tropical Storm Ophelia in 2011. The funds have come from the Government of Morocco.

Clear-up continues

The clear-up of landslides around the island continues after a weekend of heavy rain. Minister for Public Works said a delay was caused because equipment needed has had to be moved from where it was working on the West Coast road project. He said the priority was the landslides in the Castle Bruce area, since this road is presently the main rord to Melville Hall airport.

Tropical Storm Watch issued

Dominica is under a Tropical Storm Watch as Tropical Storm Maria heads west towards the Lesser Antilles. The forecast path would take Maria over Martinique as a tropical storm on Friday evening.
