Give Women Sexual Power

Marion Hall a.k.a Lady Saw chants, "she is born with the initial of success". What is she talking about? That much desired essence of the female anatomy. My family friend Aunt Sonia declares that there is much power in her 'pum-pum' purse and for this she celebrates her being woman as counterpart to man. Of course many of us find these kinds of sentiments jarring and offensive to the sensibilities. However I have often thought to myself that there is a certain exhilaration in knowing you have what most men want - and let us not be reductionist here, I am not saying this is all there is to offer. Yes of course we are human beings and it is our spirit, our intelligence that needs the most development and attention and not our bodies. When we enter into a union with a man we women should compliment with our brains as well as our emotional caring. I am sure we know this is the essential part of anything lasting, but let us put this aside just for a while as I address this topic of sexual domination.
Our society, our world even, is by majority, masculine defined. With machismo being the order of the day for determining the very existence of the people and their customs in Iraq, it is little wonder that patriarchal issues become one of intense discussion. After all isn't this a war fuelled by much testosterone? What kind of world would it be if women were in positions of political power? I am sure many including those of my specie would declare it a sure medicine to early destruction. The world is as it is, so in what ways do we as women negotiate our power or deeper yet our empowerment? Apart from the institutional methods, i.e. education and political representation, we seek to empower ourselves within various spaces of patriarchal domination through much cunning*. Louise Bennett, dialect poet and theatrical performer referred to the Jamaican woman as a 'cunny* Jamma Woman'. Carolyn Cooper in her book "Noises in the Blood" identifies the anancy tactics of female empowerment as intrinsic to negotiating equal space with her masculine counterpart in many cases playing on their 'submissive' roles to get what they want or 'playing fool to catch wise'. I extend this 'cunny Jamma woman' beyond the borders of my home country. The 'cunny' Caribbean woman whether educated or not uses much anancy tactics to succeed, to compete, to equalise the terrain of gender relations. Sexuality is definitely one of those tactics whether or not we wish to acknowledge it for whatever religious or moral standing.
The much desired female body is and always was considered a prize worth maintaining, saving, giving wisely to the right person, or the right circumstance (mostly marriage according to Christian ethics). Of course men in their natural state instinctively seek out the most desired female by whatever means of evaluation (could be on the basis of how preserved she is, how aesthetically appealing or how ready she is to give it up). It is up to us to pick, chose and refuse who will get this prize and so while power is within our grasp we use this prize to make dominant man into submissive subject! (I can see men raising a brow, after all 'bad man no fall in love, bad man stand up ina love!' or is it, 'me no beg 'tall!!', to this I say - whatever!) If we are wise we hold out until the preferred man proves he is worthy of partaking, if we are foolish we are easily impressed by sugary words and little evidence the results being disastrous to us in an unfair sexist world in favour of male 'studs'.
Our music of course is big evidence of where men prefer women sexually, it is apparent we are supposed to be under some BIG spell that has us in such a state we are unable to do much but admit our weakness for sweetness - and this not only from male artists for the record. Yet we know that when we leave our 'stallions' for whatever inadequacy or indiscretion - the result on many occasions is a bigger GWO-PWELL (and this not only the result of sexual reasons)! Face it men, we are joined at the waist (in more ways than one). I will admit that while sexually men provide much pleasure it is far easier for us to execute will power and simply 'lock up shop' than it is for men. While I refuse to fight the 'who dominates whom in the bedroom' battle, I will say sexually women do have much power and we are able to use it far more effectively than men. So come on guys, give us our Kudos, even with "the iron" that have us "so bazodee"!
