Content is King

I think you know by now that Im a strong believer that content is the most important aspect of any web site. There are no two ways about it: good content makes your site more valuable and sets you apart.
But how do you manage substantial content? It really depends on how often you need to manage that content. Content Management Systems (CMS) are now very powerful systems that are like frameworks, allowing you to define your site and let you slot content into it, building and maintaining your site with relative ease.
However, simply embracing Content Management as a trend because its in vogue isnt the answer. If you adopt it, it must be because its appropriate to your needs. Bear in mind theres a cost involved the software, set-up and training are all costs to be considered, and weighed against the benefits and savings to be gained from adopting the technology.
Indeed, theres just as likely to be a middle ground. Im finding that a sensible use of technology benefits all. In the travel & tourism sector, the most frequently changed area of a web site can (and should be) a Guestbook or a Photo Gallery. So increasingly we are enabling generally static sites with dynamic, user-maintained content areas.
Thus the best of both worlds: fresh, up-to-date content at the minimum of cost.
