York Valley Pool (E)
A popular bathing pool in the Layou River adjacent to York Valley estate. The pool is situated at a bend in the river where the water runs past high cliffs and creates a sandy beach on the opposite bank. At the base of the cliffs is a warm water spring that has been enhanced by the construction of a concrete bath around it. This was done during the construction of the Layou Valley road and York Valley Bridge in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Fresh hot water continually fills the bath and bathers can alternate between the cold river water and the hot volcanic spring.
