Layour River Valley declared disaster zone
The Layour River Valley was devastated after Miracle Lake burst its banks around 2am last night and unleashed a torrent of water down the Layou valley. The bridge at Glo Chau was partially destroyed. No lives we lost. The lake was formed after a landslide in 1997. Aproximately 2/3 of the water in the lake was drained, and there are fears that the rest of the water could still flood the valley. Dominica has been affected by heavy rains for several days.
