National, not Voter, ID card

Dominica's PM Skerrit said his Government would not be spending $4 million on Voter ID cards, especially in the present economic climate. He said that Government would rather introduce a National ID card, which would offer better value. The Opposition Party has been calling for Voter ID cards.

A reasonable, a safe move by the PM. Voting comes every five years, while citizenship is for life. As much as a voter ID card will prevent voter's fraud, a national ID card will do the same, can identify citizenship, and what is important, is belonging to nationality. It is good to know that the PM understands the importance of the country's purse hence, saving the country hard needed cash. The PM is indicating ways to safeguard voting rights, voters' participation, and voting fraud. National identity or citizenship is the best form of this along with belonging. If a national identity card is part of the badge of this sacred right, then use this right to vote (without a voter's ID card).
